there's no option like co-option, right? I'd bet within some short span of years, there is some kind of other gathering somewhere where they go back to roots, after too many rich mundanes show up at BM.

"Radical self-reliance" Is there is such a push from BM to end gov't funding for the arts? I didn't think so.

Silly. A lot of different people go to Burning Man. A number of my libertarian friends do who'd like to see an end to govt. funding of the arts and a bunch of other things.

Quite different than the people I've experience who go, they are artists straight off the 'commune' whowill critisize your way of life while asking for a handout.

As a Reno resident I think this is a wonderful development. There may be many different types of people at Burning Man, but there seems to be only one type on Interstate 80: Those with a shit RV that can't make 70.
I wish they could get a train going. Load up your crap RV somewhere in california and get conveyed all the way there along a route that is not my commute*
*Girls in flowing dresses and bikini tops exempt. You all should be free to break down on the interstate and twirl your hula hoops while waiting for AAA.
**Sincerely, Thank You to all the burners who stopped to buy supplies along the way. Reno appreciates your efforts to de-commodify the Playa.

Nothing wrong with economic radical self reliance in my book. But I believe the event you're looking for is 'Fourtha Ja-Playa' (sp?). It's supposed to be kind of a back to the roots thing.
Is it 'commodification' for people of means to compile experiences? Commodities tend to be consumed and turned into experiences. Might be more accurate to rail against capitalization. Argg, but then you en snarl all the Burners who bought a 3k craigs list RV instead of renting a 3k trailer for the week. Man, this judgmental thing is tricky.

Salutare. Multa bafta.
