Starting Or Restarting A Low-Carb Diet?
Two terrific blog posts from Mike Eades to help you out. (I've blogged these before, but they're worth posting again for anyone who hasn't seen them or who could use a second look.) Part One here. Part Two here.
He and his wife, Dr. Mary Dan Eades, a smart-as-hell southern belle with an edge, have agreed to come on my weekly radio show. We'll probably do it after the holidays. I'll give lots of warning because their thoughts on eating an evidence-based (and much more tasty) diet are not to be missed.
If you haven't heard my show, you can download or listen to all the episodes here:
The show has also been accepted on iTunes, so search my name -- Amy Alkon -- there to subscribe. More on Sunday morning about the exciting guest for next week's show -- airing Sunday night, 7-8 pm PT, 10-11 pm, ET.
Wow - the comments on Dr. Eades' site are amazingly argumentative. Especially considering you can just try the diet for a while to see if it works out - no major investment needed.

The CBS Sunday Morning show did a segment on fat today.
They were actually close to getting it right.

My wife and I started with Eades "6 Week Cure", so after the Christmas holidays and our all-inclusive winter vacation, we do a week or two of protein shakes to get back on track.
He is so right about the adaptation process. The first few days, I have trouble just having the protein shakes, so I cheat a bit with a handful of almonds without compromising the process too much.
I also find that I can go weeks or months without dessert or sweets of any kind, but if I have a few cookies or whatever, I crave more the next day.

I look forward to it!
@Ben David, I love how smoothly Dr. Eades handles trolls.

Cool, reading now.
My problem is I gorge on fruit--lots of bananas and smoothies etc. I know this can't be good for me. But I'm a student and I feel braindead if I don't get enough carbs.

When I'm on my deadline days, I wake up at 5am and write and work very intensively until 6 or later. I'm at my best if I have fatty meat and I eat liverwurst, bacon (sometimes several times a day) and Brie to keep my brain energy up.
I avoid eating things that are bad for me by considering my eating ways a culture. I'm from the culture of people who don't eat, say, potatoes. They're just not in my repertoire. They're unhealthy and I won't feel good if I eat them. I eat chocolate ice cream -- fine, full-fat stuff -- about once a week, although I went about three weeks without any. Boo! Gregg remedied that the other night and brought me a scoop of homemade dark chocolate gelato from Whole Foods. Yum!

I saw that too, Jim. I recognized Gary Taubes' name from Amy's mention of him here.
