I had never heard of Nigella before. I went and looked up some more images of her and a video or two. If you had asked me I would have said maybe 35.
I googled even Gillian McKeith as well. This is a picture of her trying to look good in January. I would have said at least 45 if not 50.

Saw her in the street once, stepping into a limo outside Barnes & Noble in Santa Monica.
You know that amphibian part of the brain that registers the presence of another human being as a binary proposition? Yes.

Good Heavens. It says a lot for meat and butter doesn't it? I guess our skin needs that stuff to look good - is that right Amy?

To be fair, Nigella'smarried to one of the richest men jn England.

So are you saying it's ok to eat all the carb-heavy recipes on Nigella's website as well?
clinky at November 27, 2011 11:56 PM
Theres lies, theres damned lies and theres statistics....how come this comparison does not have pamela anderson for the vegetarian/vegan side? maybe he could have given an equally skewed picture by giving pamela anderson on one side and maybe rosie o donnel on the other side?
Redrajesh at November 28, 2011 1:03 AM
both of these women are NOT VEGAN. Thanks for Redrajesh for saying what I might have. Gillian McKeith advocates a pescetarian diet and Nigella Lawson is just gorgeous, and was born that way.

Pam Anderson doesn't look a whole lot better than Gillian, wihtout photoshop.

Oh, Nigella. Clasp me to your wonderful English bosom, and then feed me pie.
Actually, her cookbooks are pretty unreliable (huge issues with the amounts in the UK-printed vs. American-printed ones), but they sure are fun to read. She's a hilarious writer.

I would probably be the size of Nigella if I didn't -- I was probably 10 lbs. heavier before I cut carbs down to the way I eat now -- but I'm just genetically lucky that they don't make me obese.

Wish you'd say that sort of thing more often... Not because it's personal, but because it's humble.
Obviously the American diet has terrible problems, as does the American appetite. But two things need to be kept in mind. First, there are a lot of ways that health and sickness happen that nobody can understand or (in the interaction of genetics & environment) predict.
Second, a horrible fate awaits most of us anyway, and it's nothing personal.

Hiss!
Women just can't stand it when just one of them gets a lot of attention - no matter how they get it.
Pam didn't get on magazine covers for being hideous. At that, I don't know her, so I dunno if she's a pain or not. Haven't read that she is.

Here's a photo showing a person with a vegan diet vs. a person with a meat-heavy diet. Famous dudes instead of the ladies:

I eat an all-meat diet, pretty much, and I have the health stats of an elite Olympic athlete, and I'm effortlessly thin (I weigh what I did back in high school, and I was slim in high school). What I don't do is eat carbohydrates -- flour, sugar, starchy vegetables like potatoes, apple juice -- that cause the insulin secretion that puts on fat. The lipid hypothesis has never been proved. If you want dietary science, best to not put it out yourself since you apparently know nothing of it. Dr. Michael Eades or Gary Taubes would be good sources.
Correlation is not causation, by the way.
