Obamagate?
CNN's Jack Cafferty wonders whether "Fast & Furious" -- the program to let guns "walk" to Mexico -- is Obama's Watergate:
No, because the media will not pursue him.
ON ELECTION DAY, Peter Jennings even asked his audience, "What do we know of this man?" - even though they'd been carrying his water without question to that point.
A media that never fails to bring up Mitt's Mormonity is quick to leave for coffee if a certain "Reverend" Wright is mentioned.

You want to think about how great a leader someone is? Think about what people will think of them after they leave office. Okay, Jimmy Carter wasn't a success, but at least he builds houses. What can the Nobel Prize Winner actually do, in ANY field?

Exactly what he did to win the Nobel Prize in the first place, stand there and do nothing while others attribute other peopls idea(l)s to him

No, because all but one (so far) of the dead are Mexican. If we had 300 dead endangered animals, you would have action. If we had potentially illegal wood or ivory, we would have action. To Holder, Mexicans don't rank as human, I guess.
I suspect a lot of people find this comment in poor taste. I find the Attorney General an obfuscating, lying coward, but I do wish him justice for the New Year. I guess that makes me a racist.
MarkD at December 21, 2011 6:13 AM
Actually MarkD, a U.S. Border agent was killed by one of these guns and there is a potential for more Americans to be killed bc they have lost track of where all the guns went. This was a stupid idea and an excellent example of what government "thinkers" are capable of. As for Holder, what a scumbag. The fact that he refuses to take responsibility for what his people are doing is bad enough, but to accuse the American people of racism is a step too far. This guy (and his worthless boss) both need to go.

I wouldn't hang this all on Obama. BATFE has been an agency in need of reform for a long time now. They would rather go around making policies that turn legal rifles owned by law abiding citizens into illegal weapons, or harrass legal firearms dealers about their records; then make sure that terrorists don't get explosives & organized crime syndicates have a hard time getting weapons.
Also the border agent wasn't "killed" by one of the guns from fast and furious, he was killed by the person using it. Guns don't kill people; people kill people.
It's time to greatly reduce BATFE's size and scope, have it concentrate on going after violent criminals instead of otherwise law abiding local yokals who decide to modify their rifle to make it full auto for fun. While we're at it we should repeal the ban on the manufacture of new machine guns as long as they are registered; have the proper tax stamp; and the person owning them is cleared by local law enforcement.
That's how things were done in the 60's and 70's and there weren't any problems with legal full auto firearms, and that's how things should be done now. But I'm not holding my breath.

+1
Not only does this scandal hurt Obama, it also
endorses the position of the NRA - that the administration has abetted a foreign crisis in order to justify domestic restrictions on firearms commerce and ownership. a
Even if Holder is forced to resign, they'll provide a firewall for Obama. His reputation for passivity and detachment may save him yet.

Nope.
We already know enough to know how much worse this was than the Watergate break-in coverup.
And the result is a collective yawn. Only the gunnies are getting excised, and they don't get listened to.
Agent Terry wasn't just killed by a person wielding a gun supplied via F&F or Gunwalker, the gun was paid for by the FBI. And the evidence of the gun was successfully hidden for some time, and the FBI's involvement secreted.
And now it's out and....?
So it wasn't just the cartels buying guns wholesale from dealers the ATF was forcing to sell - they were doing so with tax money provided by the FBI.
What defense could possible be made for something that horrible malformed? Who could possibly have not seen that "picking sides" in the cartel battle wouldn't ever work out for the US - and what does this mean for smuggling into the US, were we also turning a blind eye to that cartel's shipments?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, we're not done yet. I've got five more years of stuff to do. But not only saving this country from a great depression. Not only saving the auto industry. But putting in place a system in which we're gonna start lowering health care costs and you're never gonna go bankrupt because you get sick or somebody in your family gets sick. Making sure that we have reformed the financial system, so we never again have taxpayer-funded bailouts, and the system is more stable and secure. Making sure that we've got millions of kids out here who are able to go to college because we've expanded student loans and made college more affordable. Ending Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Decimating al Qaeda, including Bin Laden being taken off the field. Restoring America's respect around the world.
The issue here is not gonna be a list of accomplishments. As you said yourself, Steve, you know, I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president -- with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln -- just in terms of what we've gotten done in modern history.

The DOJ & White House should replace their press secretaries with a wheel like they have at carnivals. It would be have spots like:
> It's racism.
> It's Bush's fault.
> It's the House's fault.
> It's Congress' fault.
> It's the Senate's fault.
> It's the Tea Party's fault.
> My underlings didn't inform me.
> I didn't know.
> The right wing conspiracy caused it.
That to me is a nitpick, but you are correct. The proper phraseology should be "One of the guns sold in Fast and Furious was used to kill Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry."

"It's time to greatly reduce BATFE's size and scope"
I'd say reduce it to zero. This agency serves no purpose whatsoever. Its mission totally overlaps that of the FBI and state agencies. It is simply not needed.
