The President Is High?
What other explanation could there be for his position on the ridiculous "War on Drugs"? Mike Riggs blogs in reason:
At last week's Summit of the Americas, President Barack Obama reiterated his belief that the war on drugs is winnable, and that the alternative--legalization or decriminalization--isn't one the U.S. is willing to consider. This despite the fact that an increasing number of Central and South American governments are considering those very alternatives.Despite campaign promises to scale back the war on drugs, Obama has been a hardliner since the first day of his administration. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the talking points the Obama administration has used to justify its proxy war with Mexico's drug traffickers, which has wreaked havoc on our southern neighbor. Unlike in the U.S., where Obama is careful to sound open-minded and compassionate about the effects of the drug war, when it comes to Mexico, the American position is defined by vulgarity, condescension, dishonesty, and nonchalance.
Riggs quotes the five worst statements by the Obama admin about Mexico's drug war. Here's one:
2.) "Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that this process of collaboration under the Merida Initiative will eventually succeed because of a very simple reason for Mexico as well as for the United States: We cannot lose, because if we lose we will say to the generations that come after us 'you are condemned to live in a disgusting and repulsive world,' and that's a conversation I do not want to have with my children or grandchildren in years to come."Who said it: William Brownsfield, assistant secretary, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, U.S. State Department
Why he's wrong: A world in which human beings can freely recreate in ways that do not harm their neighbors is not objectively disgusting or repulsive. Drug use dates back to antiquity and will likely accompany us to the end of time. It's arguably not worth shedding blood over.

Prohibition failed. It is still failing. The only difference is the prohibited drug.
From drug-rehabs.org:
Thinking that new or continued enforcement of failed laws is going to change anything is a sign of insanity; i.e. doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
The only reason I can think that Obama is supporting this is he wants to use it to further curtail rights if he gets re-elected.
As Amy has posted many times, the War on Drugs has normalized the kicking in of doors and violation of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments.
The TSA has normalized the violation of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments.
The national media is not helping by dismissing Fast and Furious as significant.
I don't know what the answer is -- but prohibition has failed. Deal with it.

This always amazes me peoples expectations about candidates.
Obama was cool - he smoked pot and admitted he inhaled so he will be lax on drugs. He is like us and will fight for us.
NOT
Romney - he is Mormon. He does not drink. I like to drink, he is weird. Since he does not like booze, he is going to outlaw it. Add the same with marriage, birth control, etc.
People have stopped thinking. They take things at face value from a thousand feet away. What happened to critical thinking?

No Democrat will ever end the war on drugs. They are owned by the government employee unions.
Blacks are one of the most important constituents of the Democratic party and are harmed disproportionately by the war on drugs. Look, Zimmermann!

Obama campaigned on the promise to reduce the War On Drugs.
He also mentioned that the US needed a federal civilian police corp as big as the military services.
I think he was sincere about reducing the stupid waste of oppressing people for quiet drug use. This is especially true given that minorities are hardest hit by these laws. Obama's life would have been derailed if his own drug use had been discovered when he was young. He is a hypocrite and politician (redundant) for continuing the war on drugs.
But, another consideration may be more important to Obama. The War On Drugs provides an expanding corp of federal police forces and equipment which can be used to bring order to an unruly population.

Well, how about a contrast?
In addition to drafting the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson had served in two Continental Congresses, as minister to France, as secretary of state under George Washington and as John Adams’ vice president before he ran for President.
How about your guy?

You dont understand, Obama NEEDS the drug war. He needs it to obliterate the Constitution, specifically the 2nd ammendment through the fake gun running to mexico, the 4th and 5th ammendments regarding search and seizure and private property rights. This also gives the government the right to seize people's money regardless if it was earned/obtained legally.

Case in point, a farmer in Maryland had a large sum of money $70,000.00 confiscated from his bank account because they deposited the week's cash receipts of less than $10,000.00 several times that triggered the bank to notify the Feds. The feds are now charging this farmer with a felony and confiscated his money. His crime? depositing $9,000.00 several times. Maryland is using the law (made to apprehend real criminals for money laundering) to take people's money...
