Why I Won't Be Flying Virgin
Hugo Martin writes in the LA Times that they'll soon be allowing passengers to yammer on their cellphones in flight.
Will they also be allowing their seatmates to brutally assault them when they just can't take another moment being the captive audience to their inane yammerings?

1. Take notes.
2. Publish.
I already do this, and in fact, I'd probably record them and post their conversation, but I'd rather just be able to sit in my seat without having to suffer.

Sweet Jesus-gabby seatmates aren't bad enough? Now even if we manage to keep from getting involved in a conversation with them, we still have to listen to them talk? I will never, ever, ever fly them.
They must really be going for the young hip attached-at-the-phone niche market.

It's coming to all airlines, unfortunately. Although on most of the routes I fly, it'll be a while.

I take the train to work every day, and we now have a "quiet car" on every train. Best idea ever!! No coversations with your seatmate, no cell phones, no noisy kids (which isn't really an issue on commuter trains anyway). When the quiet cars were first introduced a lot of people whined that they NEED to be able to talk on their phones and with their commuter friends. I wondered if anyone would use the quiet car...turns out it's filled to capacity every day.
It's a shame they can't really section off a quiet area in a plane. Yet another reason why flying pretty much bites.

Two words for you: noise-cancelling headphones. Ideally, Virgin will supply them for free.

Why can't they have a "cell-phone section" and a "no cell-phone" section? Let the cell phone users yammer away, annoying each other to the point of killing each other. Problem solved.

Is there a way they can charge fees for it?

Maybe you don't use your cellphone while flying and hence you don't want others to use their cellphones.
But Virgin is a private business which has rights to have its rules(just like you argue that a private business has the right to choose who it serves). They are just trying to capture the market for people who want to use their cellphones while flying and are thereby differentiating themselves.
If you don't like it, don't fly Virgin. There are plenty of people who want to use their cellphones and don't mind others using theirs either on the flight and Virgin is trying to cater to that section of the market.

Dig the title of the post. Kind of sounds like most of the comments agree with yours.
