I always thought debate competitions were kind of useless, as most teams rely on verbal tricks rather than formal logic, but aparantly the absurdity has been taken to a whole new level.
Now, the teams that are winning are just throwing the race card.

Legalized weed in Colorado. Increase in college applications in Colorado. Did the former drive the latter? Experts (and non-experts) disagree.

Isab, I wasn't sure what to think of the article you cited. I got the feeling that some of the participants think demonstrating skill with a lacrosse stick should earn them a trophy in rugby. Or something. As for the comments, I couldn't tell what planet most of those folks were orbiting.

They've seen politicians and Sharptonians weaving race into every encounter, so they're taking it to the next (lazy) level, and young people are wont to do: There can be no topic besides race, and any opinion besides my own is hurtful.
Academe has welcomed them.
Is there any reason to doubt that policy culture, government and regulation, will welcome them with open arms?

This is what gets me about modern western feminists ... they'll go on sanctimonious personal crusades about BS like growing their leg hair and demanding men put up with it, but you'll never hear a peep from these 'feminists' about real and serious women's rights violations that occur daily in other parts of the world, like condoned beatings, driving or education bans for women, female genital mutilation, women being forced to wear burqas etc. No, modern western feminists today are tackling so much more meaningful problems, like hairy legs and 'men taking up too much space on the train' ... the entire movement/ideology has jumped the shark.

At Oberlin College in Ohio, trigger warnings have been shot down.
Trigger Warning: There aren't any. They've been shot down.

The debate thing is remarkable.
They've seen politicians and Sharptonians weaving race into every encounter, so they're taking it to the next (lazy) level, and young people are wont to do: There can be no topic besides race, and any opinion besides my own is hurtful.
Academe has welcomed them.

These kids have bright futures.
