This might be a good moment to brush up on the spelling of "Tiananmen"…

It's possible that there's going to be a bloodbath before Amy's East coast people wake up on Monday.
This guy's twitter feed is an excellent source for military news and trends, thus also some international politics. Tonight at least, he's a great source for Hong Kong events.
Hey Crid; so far it is only tear gas; I'd be surprised if it went beyond that.
But, with Beijing trying to call the shots in East Asia they can't let something like this go unchallenged in their front yard without losing face. What they do in their back yard to the Uighurs goes unnoticed most of the time - so, maybe they will do something nasty.
Tian (Heaven) An (Peace) Men (door/gate) - got my spelling and translation up to date.
The one thing that is great is that this "Occupy Central" movement; unlike the US namesake does have a real, and clear, goal - allowing Hong Kongers to vote for their candidates without the Communist Party approving who gets on the ballot.
And, photos of Connaught Road full of protesters and then again empty during rush hour are amazing.
While Hong Kong was a British colony they didn't protest no elections because the Brits pretty much left people alone near the end of British rule; but, Hong Kongers are clearly seeing the future Beijing has in store for them and aren't going to stand for it - More power to them!

RE: Hong Kong Protests
After watching several YouTube videos one thing stands out. Many of the office workers, not just students, have joined and are showing their fellow protesters to show respect to the police, to not throw bottles, to not counter force with force.
Hopefully, that may help the police realize that what the students (and now office workers) are doing is for the benefit of ALL Hong Kongers.
Beijing can't crack down if they don't have the police to do it for them. Any Mainlander force coming into Hong Kong to put down any protests would certainly gets the world's attention. Heck it might even get Obama to look up from his golf game.
Amy, if I may, let me highjack this thread with this video:
For Gog (and all): Freaking WOW.
Seriously.

Paglia, at her best. Who can really write like she can?
Isab at September 29, 2014 10:42 AM
Only the very few who can think like she does... Those who can see the world as it is, selecting their own beliefs as flattering fashion accessories.

Whoops, WITHOUT selecting etc....
This is what I was getting at.

Every week a guy in a weird robe gets up at an altar and tells folks what to do.
This week some other guy in a weird robe got up and told other folks what to do.
In flyover country this is some sort of outrage.
