You are one of "us" unless you aren't!?.

Being entertained by online discussions of liberals doing verbal contortions and acrobatics on several issues.
How Jenner self identifying as a woman is heroic but Dolezal or anyone self identifying as African is pure evil and should be shamed.
Or how The multi-millionaire Clintons are self identifying as poor. But Cruz should be mocked as rich for buying a boat, (which could fit in the Clintons pool).
Or how no business should be allowed to discriminate against anyone especially cake artists for gay weddings, but a musician should be able to say a conservative can't buy or play his music at a political event, because ???
Joe j at June 17, 2015 9:34 PM
The difference between Jenner and this gal is that gender is biological and race is not.
He was born with a woman's brain and this chick...well it's not possible to be born with a "black" brain.

If Trump is using the song without a license (aka theft) then yeah, the musician has a legitimate beef.
If Trump has a license from ASCAP, BMI or whomever, then he should tell said musician to pound sand and cry all they way to the bank to cash the damn royalty check.

"He was born with a woman's brain and this chick...well it's not possible to be born with a "black" brain. "
Well, there are a few genes that are specific to blacks, otherwise there wouldn't be blacks. And there's a few genetic conditions that are found mostly among blacks, notably sickle cell anemia (which was once one of the main causes of death among blacks). So it's not totally without a biological basis. That said... I personlly don't give a damn what someone choose to self-identify as. When it comes to genitals, we do have a social custom of separating, for the purpose of biological functions, the wang bearers from the non-wang bearers, and I think that needs to continue to be respected.
But for most other purposes, I just can't be bothered. Everybody looks different. Amy and I are both categorized as "white", yet we bear little resemblance beyond the basic human body form. She's a tall, lanky, big-boobed Irish redhead of a woman; I'm a dark-hair, dark-skinned swarthy Eastern European looking guy. I probably have more in common, biologically and appearance-wise, with the Jamaican dude three cubes over in our office than I do with Amy. Yet, somehow, we are able to interact as human beings. What a concept!
I never thought I'd see the day when the NAACP would agitate for the creation of racial classification boards.

I think having peafowl as alarm guards is a fantastic idea.
But you really should get some velociraptors for patrolling the grounds. I'm pretty sure none of your neighbors will try to hop the wall and take a dip in your pool.
Well, not after the first one does...
I R A Darth Aggie at June 18, 2015 6:46 AM
You're confusing geographical area mutations with actual meaningful differences like sex. Humans are inbred.
No there are no genetic difference between races. ESPECIALLY between a black and a white American. And unless you're Sub-Saharan African you're gonna be incredibly impure and inbred.
That's why the concept of race is meaningless. But the concept of culture is not.
Wanting to be a woman is nothing like wanting to be black. The only thing that makes you black is the culture you grew up in and how other people perceive you. A trans person isn't trans because of the culture they grew up in or how other people perceive them. Quite the opposite. They're trans because their biological brains say they're in the wrong gender. And only something like hormones will cure that. A white person can't take black hormones.

"he only thing that makes you black is the culture you grew up in and how other people perceive you."
Eh nope, Sorry we don't have 2 Americas no matter how much Sharpton would like it to be so. We have many different spectra.
Two inner city youth of any color has more a shared culture than a black inner city youth does with a person who just stepped off a plane today from Africa. Yet both would be considered Black, while the two with the truely shared culture would not. And the two Obama girls have way more a shared culture and experiences with Chelsea Clinton than with an actual inner city youth.
Joe J at June 18, 2015 2:27 PM
Did you skip the part where I said how people perceive you?
Answer yes.
Ppen at June 18, 2015 5:50 PM
And if people only had 2 possible perceptions it might have meaning, but since they don't it has no meaning here.
Joe j at June 18, 2015 8:30 PM
You're assuming that I believe there is only one type of "black". To be honest I never understand the need for blog commenters to bring up Al Sharpton anytime there is a discussion about black people. What the fuck does he have anything to do with the topic?
You missed the overall point of my post. Black is cultural and not tied to any biological basis. Just because YOU think the Obama girls have more in common with Chelsea Clinton doesn't mean they are LESS black than an inner city black youth. Black just means you are tied to a TYPE of black culture AND people perceive you as black.
Gender on the other hand is purely biological while race is a social construct.
So no saying transracial is on the same level as transgender is disingenuous.

I think I get where Ppen's coming from... the point I was making is that in order to have variation from one individual to the next, there have to be at least a few differences in genetics between those two individuals. Her point is that dividing certain categories of those variations into "race" (and others not) is arbitrary, and I agree with that. After all, within my lifetime, some people still classified Asians (Japanese/Chineese/Koreans, that is) as a separate race. By the same token, we could consider tall people and short people to be of a different "race". The reasons some things are considered defining characteristics of a race, and others not, is a historical accident.
