Snorted out loud when I heard US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter state that ISIS will be defeated because "It will be, because the barbarians are always defeated by civilization, a few by the many."
The Mongols Gold, White, & Great, the Huns, the Olmecs, the Romans, the Franks, the Alans, the Khmer, the French, the Nabataeans, the Romans again, and again, and again, the Wallachians, the Avars, the Bulgars, the Genoese, the Mamluks, the Ottomans, the Delphi Sultante, the Ch'in, the Ming, the Illyrians, the Greeks, the Phoncians, the Punins, the Hans, the Yayoi, the Umayyad, the Huari, the Chimú, the Afrighids, the Khwarezmid, the Kuba, the T'ang, the Hittites, the Assyria, the Lugalzaggisi.
I could go one for pages, all at one point both barbarians and civilizations that fell to barbarians, depending on the view point of the history writter
It seems that you can't even be 30 feet away from your children and keep them in sight without getting arrested.

Wonder what the Mongols would say about that.

History is fascinating. Sadly you see the exact same themes played out over and over and over again.
Man rarely advances emotionally, or empathically, or rationally.
We got better science and cooler tech. But were basically the same irrational nearsighted chimps we wet 600000 years ago
