If you're interested in a Watergate as a remarkable event in our political history and as a game-changer for our media, this is essential reading.
(By the way, the writer for the first link is mistaken: The Bradlee "tuxedo" scene comes later in the film, when the WaPo stories already have considerable inertia.)

What's wrong with the Democratic Party? An interesting examination from Salon of why the Dems are in desperate need of a civil war.

Kinda weird. The guy takes it as a given that there are differences that the Dems can hash out through productive discussion, but I'm not sure it's so. Bernie wasn't actually a member of the Party; and never having created a dime's worth of wealth in his entire life, his lilting daydreams about finance are untethered by moral or practical constraints of any kind... That's how progressives move through their lives. Ditto with mere lefties, now saddled with the smug entitlement of the essentially the entire government work force and its parasites. None of these people are interested in hearing bad news from ideological 'cousins.' They don't have much in common.
Nor, for all their think-tankery, have Republicans identified a set of conservative principles which work across social and economic divides. The wealthy want tax abatement and immigration's cheap labor at all costs, and last year one of those costs turned out to be, essentially, the entire middle class (with poorer social conservatives as well).
Both parties were fractured and defeated by Trump, whose deployment of everyday conversation was literally too straightforward for his opponents to comprehend.
For all his seemingly admirable suspicion of sophistry, Curry's putting his chips on imaginary chatter to move things forward.
I somewhat agree with you Crid. Curry doesn't really understand how the Democrat party fell apart. With the repeated election of Obama many Democrat subgroups felt like they had 'won'. They no longer needed their slightly distasteful (but much less distasteful than the opposing side) allies. So white middle and lower income people were pushed out of the party. As Cousin Dave would put it, the revolution was eating their own. This was a political mistake. They don't have the numbers they thought they had. But talking about it isn't going to solve anything. Especially since the Democrat party is heavily emotionally driven.
You can't change the direction of a movement that quickly and anyone who would look to change the direction of the party has already been purged. We are looking at a decade or more of the Democrats tearing themselves apart until that emotion of 'winning' fades. Talking about it won't have much effect.
Especially since saying things people don't want to hear will get you purged from the group.

Problem was Democrats didnt understand why Obama got elected.
They assumed it was because their decades of moral bitching had finally paid off, they didnt understand they had done such a good job marketing Obama that most voters believed him to be an outsider to the Washington circle
Its why alot of the counties that voted for Obama switched to Trump. Most voters dont give a shit about most of the parties agendas, they are just sick of getting fucked over by DC
Remember this person? She looks like this now, and she talks like that.
