How Islam Has Reshaped Attendance At Public Events
I'm an atheist, but I can get behind the Jesus stuff -- feed the poor, heal the sick, and all.
I started reading in Islam after 9/11, and I was shocked at what I learned.
I came to understand that Islam is a violent totalitarian political ideology, masquerading as a religion. It calls for the death or conversion of non-Muslims and the installation of the Caliphate around the globe -- beheading individual rights along with non-Muslims on the way.
Probably around 2004 or 2006, I realized that there were sure to be attacks in spaces where a lot of people gather, and my boyfriend and I basically stopped going to the movies at Santa Monica's big open Third Street Promenade.
I also thought about other public events and the TSA line as places we're likely to be sitting ducks.
Now, it turns out other people are thinking similarly.
At City Journal, Stephen Kanfer uses a poll about this to knock some of the ridiculous comparisons people make to other ways to die -- probably because they prefer to defend Islam rather than to look closely at it:
In the New York Times, columnist Nicholas Kristof falls in lockstep. "Most years in the U.S., ladders kill far more Americans than Muslim terrorists do. Same with bathtubs. Ditto for stairs. And lightning." Boston Globe columnist Michael H. Cohen is more statistical but just as banal: "Even unintentional drowning--in bathtubs, lakes and swimming pools--kills more than 3,500 people a year, a number approximately 1,800 times larger than the number of people killed by terrorism."These soothing statements ignore a fundamental fact: bathtubs, ladders, and lightning don't have as their object the murder and maiming of human beings--jihadists do. Those who perish by accident are victims. Murdered people are prey. If it turned out that the ladder companies were putting teflon on the top rungs so people would slip off and die, then we would expect the government to respond swiftly to the threat, even if only a few people were killed this way.
In any case, media-made pablum has failed to impress U.S. vacationers. A recent Gallup poll asked respondents about the likelihood of their attendance at crowded events. The pollsters asked three other questions: How willing are you to travel overseas, to fly on airplanes, and to venture into major skyscrapers? The answers are revealing. Some 38 percent of U.S. adults interviewed say that they'd stay away from events with thousands of attendees. This is the highest level of anxiety since Gallup began surveying American attitudes about terror after 9/11.
People are also less willing to travel, he notes.
What this amounts to is that our modern world has been reshaped by the murderous directives of a medieval ideology.
And in case you're new here and wondering, yes, I think individual Muslims must be seen as individuals; it is the ideology that is pernicious.
However, disturbingly, though most Muslims are not violent, per polls, the percentage who are amounts to a vast number of people.
As Brigitte Gabriel puts it: The "peaceful majority" is "irrelevant."

> a violent totalitarian
> political ideology

Imagine if liberals fought as hard against radical Islam as they do against Trump.

Less than 2 people a year, must have cherry picked around 9/11 and Orlando.
I wonder if they would do the same with African American deaths vs the supposed genocide of police shootings.

So yeah. The issue is not the statistics. The issue is the impression a lot of people have that our ruling class would very much like to convince us that Islamic radicals are nothing to worry about. Our federal government still focuses most of its anti-terror efforts on "right wing domestic terrorism", despite the fact that nearly every domestic-terrorism attack over the past decade has turned to have been perpetrated either by leftists, or by psychologically unstable individuals with no discernible political ideology. It is apparent that the Left regards radical Islam as an ally of convenience, and is willing to provide it cover in exchange for keeping the hoi polloi in line.
This is the reason you see the Left having absolute meltdowns over the "travel ban", even though that supposed ban really doesn't do much. Its existence means that they've been found out.
Cousin Dave at July 6, 2017 6:31 AM
I saw an apology column, comparing Islamic terror events to rightwing events.
The count was "incidents".
A couple of skinheads beat a homeless man to death. One incident.
San Bernardino shooting. One incident. I guess they thought they were fooling somebody.
Even comparing deaths is misleading, since beating a homeless man to death doesn't leave more than one person alive but with life-changing injuries. See the Boston bombning.
And, as pointed out, the federal government is not in the business of importing more bath tubs, ladders, or lightning. Nor is it considered rude to discuss ways to avoid death or injury from them.

must have cherry picked
Starts on 12 September 2001, and ended sometime in 2015, not sure if that includes the San Bernadino killings or not. I think it does, but does not include Orlando.
As my Pap used to say, figures don't lie, but liars can figure.

Also, for those who are new here, Winston Churchill on Islam:
How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.
A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.
Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.

Also, quotes from John Quincy Adams on Islam:
In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust, by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.
Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. That war is yet flagrant; nor can it cease but by the extinction of that imposture, which has been permitted by Providence to prolong the degeneracy of man. While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men. The hand of Ishmael will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. It is, indeed, amongst the mysterious dealings of God, that this delusion should have been suffered for so many ages, and during so many generations of human kind, to prevail over the doctrines of the meek and peaceful and benevolent Jesus (Blunt, 1830, 29:269, capitals in orig.).
The precept of the koran is, perpetual war against all who deny, that Mahomet is the prophet of God. The vanquished may purchase their lives, by the payment of tribute; the victorious may be appeased by a false and delusive promise of peace; and the faithful follower of the prophet, may submit to the imperious necessities of defeat: but the command to propagate the Moslem creed by the sword is always obligatory, when it can be made effective. The commands of the prophet may be performed alike, by fraud, or by force (Blunt, 29:274).
The fundamental doctrine of the Christian religion, is the extirpation of hatred from the human heart. It forbids the exercise of it, even towards enemies. There is no denomination of Christians, which denies or misunderstands this doctrine. All understand it alike—all acknowledge its obligations; and however imperfectly, in the purposes of Divine Providence, its efficacy has been shown in the practice of Christians, it has not been wholly inoperative upon them. Its effect has been upon the manners of nations. It has mitigated the horrors of war—it has softened the features of slavery—it has humanized the intercourse of social life. The unqualified acknowledgement of a duty does not, indeed, suffice to insure its performance. Hatred is yet a passion, but too powerful upon the hearts of Christians. Yet they cannot indulge it, except by the sacrifice of their principles, and the conscious violation of their duties. No state paper from a Christian hand, could, without trampling the precepts of its Lord and Master, have commenced by an open proclamation of hatred to any portion of the human race. The Ottoman lays it down as the foundation of his discourse (Blunt, 29:300, emp. added).
But certain folks can go on mocking Amy's use of the term "pernicious ideology" to describe Islam if they wish.

That this has not happened in the tens of thousands of bigger venues more than it has over the past 15+ years testifies to one of only two things: the average diligence in pressing an attack on American soil is over-reported, or an anonymous agent is thwarting attacks.
It certainly hasn't been stopped by groping people for buying an airline ticket.

Go ahead, find fault with that. Show your math.
The problem with Christianity is that there are few Christians who lead Christ-like lives.
The problem with Islam is that there are too many Muslims who lead Mohamed-like lives.

Ive never been a fan of big crowds, but now we absolutely avoid them. The only way thats actually affected us, is that DD had a chance to attend the inauguration and we did not send her. Not worth it.

Darth, I'm sure you know this quotation, but...
“I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
-Gandhi.
Btw, I found an interesting piece by a Christian who says that we should not aspire to Gandhi's idea of Christ. (Probably someone who thinks that the ONLY thing wrong with the Crusades was that they failed.)
