FRIDAY WAS ONE of the most embarrassing days for the U.S. media in quite a long time. The humiliation orgy was kicked off by CNN, with MSNBC and CBS close behind, with countless pundits, commentators and operatives joining the party throughout the day. By the end of the day, it was clear that several of the nation’s largest and most influential news outlets had spread an explosive but completely false news story to millions of people, while refusing to provide any explanation of how it happened.
One thing about the Franken "resignation" that struck me earlier is that he did not actually resign. He only announced that he would be resigning "soon."
I wonder what he'll do if Roy Moore wins in Alabama. Might he rescind his resignation? Would he be justified to do so?
I think if he does remain in the Senate, he'll find that his effectiveness as a Senator (govtrack report card here and govtrack legislative metrics here) will be severely diminished. I think Roy Moore's going to discover the same thing. No one will want to co-sponsor a bill with either of them. And getting a bill either of them sponsors or introduces out of committee will prove difficult.

I noticed that, too, Conan. And to add to the sketchiness of this announced impending resignation, he was very vague about when he would resign. I believe he said something like, "in the next few weeks."
Which could reasonably keep him in Senate till the end of January.
