Sounds to me like perhaps he was getting a little annoyed, but then quickly remembered that the two of you agreed never to speak an angry word to one another.

If my boyfriend said that to me, I'd probably crack up laughing. Which would then make me relax. (I guess it depends on how upset I was, and what I was upset about.)

Exactly the effect it had on me. Gregg always makes me laugh. Teases me a lot. I love it.
My favorite thing he says (related to my ADHD): "Do I have your divided attention?"
This reminds me of what Paglia said about the Wilson scandal on that radio show last week. She faulted Wilson for saying flatly "You lie", and said this wasn't comparable to what happens during the rowdier sessions of Britain's parliment... Because over there, the most grievous taunts always begin with a rote piece of flattery: "If the esteemed gentlemen from Yorkshire could pull his head out of his ass for ten seconds, I should like to suggest to him that...." etc.

That could always be interchanged with, "Will you get a fucking grip!!!......sweetie?" Something tells me that it was probably well-deserved and that you don't need any reassurance that he loves you!

the esteemed gentleman from Yorkshire is just a code word for this prick right here. I think Dennis Miller pointed that out about congress in the US.

I rather suspect I may have ADHD. I would love to hear, if it's not an invasion of your privacy, of any suggestions you have on this and how any medications/nutritional supplements might have worked for you.
Your writing on Gary Taubes and carb reduction literally changed my life. I'm wondering if you can make lightening strike twice in the same place.

"I Can Sometimes Be Aggravating"
The fact that you can even admit this puts you way ahead of most women in our society.
The fact that you can make fun of this and even laugh about it puts you even further ahead of most women in our society.

Thanks, DavidM. I think too many women take offense at far too many things. Gregg is so funny and so un-PC, and the fact that I'm not means I get treated to a lot of funny stuff...including when he lovingly makes me the butt of jokes (like the "Do I have your dividied attention?" crack)...which I just love.

Listen, not to be pedantic or anything, but...
(who am I kidding? Of course I mean to be pedantic.)
Amy has a couple of skills like that, habits that other people don't have that she doesn't recognize in herself.
For example, she's not a pinky-extended cotillion princess who feels heartache just because a couple of people down that hall are speaking with raised voices.
A lot of modern women with similar liberal impulses (small-l, OK?) do have a distressed, fearful response to conflict. I think this is one source of Obama/racism paranoia.
Secondly, she never talks about it explicitly, but she seems to understand that there is such a thing as feminine nature.... (though that's not the topic of this blog post. There are plenty of men in the world who need to chill out a little bit, too.)

*snork!* Your boyfriend and mine should get together. (Or maybe not ... better to keep the powers of evil divided, I always say.)
