How Big An Ass Is Glenn Beck?
I've never watched him, but Overlawyered's Walter Olson Tweeted a link to this unbelievable rant, "Atheists To Blame For All Of America's Problems":
As Doug Mataconis writes on Below The Beltway: "Yea, it has nothing to do with all those religious people who've, you know, actually been in charge of the country all these years."
I think that many people dislike Glenn Beck's reports because he dares to mention racial issues from a White perspective.

The biggest problem with Glenn Beck is that his political opponents (who overlap significantly with my political opponents) try to paint him as typical in order to discredit ideas that I agree with. His biggest contribution is that he makes people who agree with me look centrist. So I say, let him rant.
Pseudonym at September 30, 2009 8:03 AM
Glenn Beck is great! He speaks truth to power, and like Berl says, from a "White" perspective, shining a light into darkness few others dare to breach. He speaks for real Americans, and it is my hope that he continues to do so, loudly and proudly.
Whatever at September 30, 2009 8:34 AM
Beck was right on ACORN and right on Van Jones. I say give him more room.
Nick at September 30, 2009 8:52 AM
Wait a minute, weren't you a big fan of this guy for the last six months?
Crid [CridComment @ gmail] at September 30, 2009 9:20 AM
"Rant"? Not really see that as a rant.
Also, the almost 6 minute video clip can hardly be reduced to one sentence of "Atheists To Blame For All Of America's Problems".
I agree with him and I'm an atheist. There, how's that for a rant.
Really unbiased post title. Why bother if you've already made your mind up? If you belive that Glenn is big ass exactly what do you think of the people who marched on DC on Spet. 12th? Many were there because of Glenn Beck.
Like your blog but the touchiness of the theist/atheist subject gets old.
tim at September 30, 2009 9:32 AM
Seems like a perfect title, Beck was saying lack of religiousness is what has caused the decline of america.
But given the majority of our leaders claim to be religious and claim to belive in the same god I hardly see how its the fault of those few of us who dont live in a fantasy world.
lujlp at September 30, 2009 10:38 AM
I trust you know that real conservatives like Mark Levin are speaking out against Beck because they intuitively know that he is hurting the conservative movement. Your video is a prime example why.

"Is it that God is no longer trusted in America?"
Well, him, and the Easter Bunny. People just have to start doing the math, and that is all there is to it. Like it or not, we are all in for a dramatic and drastic adjustment in our expectations. Too fuckin' bad. Glenn Beck is as incapable of facing the ugly truth as everyone else. Face it, folks - we're just going to have to adjust ourselves to a lower standard of living. Low wages, second jobs, and no kids. Fortunately for me, I can still be perfectly happy with that.

People worry too much about TV stars. Real "movements" are not constructed around such figures

Kinda hard to trust someone who never shows up or lends a hand whenyou ask him to

Glenn Beck is a lunatic. I can’t believe people listen to his crazy shit.
Roger at September 30, 2009 11:40 AM
I think he is only slightly off base.
He should have said that a lack of morality not a lack of religion or lack of god is responsible for a lot of America's problems.
David M. at September 30, 2009 11:57 AM
Crediting Glenn Beck with the demise of ACORN is like thanking the postman for giving you a million dollars when all he did was bring the letter from Publisher's Clearinghouse saying you won.
Glenn Beck had an opportunity dumped in his lap. The credit for ACORN's demise goes to James O'Keefe and Hannah Miles. No one else.
By the way, if you want to see Glenn Beck lose it, check this out. He screams, I mean literally screams, at a caller.

He's the male Ann Coulter. I like him. He doesn't bat 1000, but when he hits it he gets it out of the park.
momof4 at September 30, 2009 2:00 PM
If that's what he actually said, it doesn't impugn atheists at all, since an atheist can be just as religious (global warming, politics) as the next person. Regardless of what you think about the existence or not of the flying spaghetti monster, I hope you agree that widespread conformity to a shared moral code objectively benefits society.
Good thing nobody's doing that, then.
Pseudonym at September 30, 2009 2:10 PM
Beck is an ass.
I agree with Pseudonym that the problem is that he seems to be on my side, which makes me look bad.

He's the male Ann Coulter.
In that both of them drive liberals crazy while making conservatives look like assholes?
Whatever at September 30, 2009 3:44 PM
Beck is laughing all the way to the bank. He probably doesn't believe half of what he says.
A really credible person would be honest enough to own up to their past errors, and the limitations of what is knowable.

Whatever writes: He's the male Ann Coulter.

Ann Coulter's Adam's apple is much more prominent.
In fairness to Glenn Beck, he's the only (soi-disant) conservatives who actually had the courage to say what everyone knows, whether they admit it or not: Obama is a racist.
He said Obama has "a deep-seated hatred of white people." He's correct.
I say soi-disant conservative, because in actuality, there isn't a true conservative in the public eye today. The last one we saw was Barry Goldwater.
Patrick at October 1, 2009 8:21 AM
Man, most of folks are complete frauds and losers, accusing Beck of this and that, of being dishonest. Not believing in what he says, not owning up to when he’s wrong. Most of all you detractors and haters don’t listen to him, just throw stuff out there, can’t back it up with anything other than your mindless drivel.
Bravo, you’ve now lowered yourself to the level that you accuse Beck of being. Hypocrites all around, you are.
Especially you Iconoclast, please do tell us what you know about Glenn, go ahead pull from your backside all that you don't know. He laughs at idiots like you.
tim at October 1, 2009 9:31 AM
The MSM gets to decide who isn't a fraud and loser. But despite that, Glenn Beck is a fraud and loser.

What?!
Whatever at October 1, 2009 8:29 PM
I've only watched Glenn Beck like 3 times and my assessment is that he is very much like Ron Paul. His biggest attraction is by appealing to the simple-minded fringe with outrageous notions and ideas, which make up 1/2 to 2/3 of what he says (explanations using dolls and diagrams is the first indicator) and to pragmatic decent people with morals, some of which are intelligent but too intelligent to ever admit they have seen his show or agree with him on a few things. In short he's a performer and the best assessment of him comes from observing him on other people's programs. If you see him on a serious show he don't realize how much he can come off like a lunatic. And then if you watch him you think no one is that crazy, this is just a performance. You just have to ask of any media source, How much is art, and how much is science/business?
Jake Lockley at October 1, 2009 11:24 PM
He said Obama has "a deep-seated hatred of white people." He's correct.
What?!
I said he's correct. Obama does hate whites. If a white man attended a white supremacist church for twenty years, wouldn't you concede that he's a racist? Then why does Obama attend the services of Jeremiah Wright, who, despite his own privileged upbringing, has made a career fueling the resentment between races?
How is it that a black man can attend a church where whites are routinely vilified and condemned from the pulpit, but if a white attended such a church, where blacks are treated like this, he's a racist? How does that work?
