Vote Your Melanin!
Apparently, all black people are supposed to vote alike. Who does this icky thinking come from? None other than Jesse Jackson, who went after Alabama Congressman Artur Davis as a race traitor for going against the health care bill. From the WSJ:
"We even have blacks voting against the health-care bill," said Mr. Jackson. "You can't vote against health care and call yourself a black man."Mr. Davis is running for governor in a state that John McCain won last year, and his vote was surely influenced by the reality that Alabamans aren't the biggest fans of ObamaCare. The Congressmen, to his credit, took the high ground in response to Mr. Jackson's low blow. "One of the reasons that I like and admire Rev. Jesse Jackson is that 21 years ago he inspired the idea that a black politician would not be judged simply as a black leader," he said in a statement referencing Mr. Jackson's 1988 Presidential bid. "The best way to honor Rev. Jackson's legacy is to decline to engage in an argument with him that begins and ends with race."
Psssst! Jesse...there are a number of conservatives out there who happen to be...rather dark-skinned...Thomas Sowell, John McWhorter.
I would say the real race traitor is a guy like Jackson who expects less from black people simply because they're black (remember Jesse Jackson muttering about Obama that he wanted to "cut his nuts off," apparently in response to Obama's telling black fathers to man up). Of course, Jesse Jackson's living has always depended on divisiveness, or maintaining the idea of it, between blacks and whites. And then, as Patterico notes, it's hard for a guy to stigmatize the tragic number of out-of-wedlock births in the black community when he himself is the baby-daddy of some single mother's child.
Does anybody call white congressmen race traitors for voting the way the Black Caucus recommends on some issue? Or, are they simply congressmen voting their conscience (I know, it's, well, optimistic to say that of many politicians) or the way the voters in their district would prefer?
Of course, in the spirit of fairness, it isn't just the black people who play the race card. Here's Barbara Boxer getting reamed by Black Chamber Of Commerce CEO Harry Alford a few months back. She twitters on for a while, but he sure brings it home at the end:

So glad you decided to include the video of Barbara Boxer this post.
THIS is the type of racial crap people should be screaming from rooftops about, and the media *should* be reporting, feverishly.
Instead, what is currently being reported (ad nauseum) by our media are legitimate debates and arguments about someone's policy issues (who also just so happens to be ).
Excellent post, Amy.

But also, just to be clear here, what Barbara Boxer said WAS racist. But with all the overuse of the word "racist" and constant lines being drawn to non-racist comments and actions, the tone of her statements don't send up red flags for most folks. Luckily, Mr. Alford called her out on it - and APPROPRIATELY so.
Feebie at November 21, 2009 12:02 AM
MSM racism operating procedure: A) Take out the 'who should be called on racism' reporting matrix. B) Check specific factors against the matrix...for instance Barbara Boxer is ultra left wing. C) Look to those factors on the matrix to see if it is a story to be written about.
Sadly a lot could be done about REAL racism if the MSM was unwaveringly consistent. Jesse Jackson's obvious racist statement should be condemned from all corners (to be black you must do X? Wow.). Regardless of who you are, if you say something like that, the condemnation needs to be unequivocal and without hesitation. Instead the MSM has unfavored groups they will quickly condemn for real or UNREAL racism. For the favored groups the MSM's condemnation is extremely negotiable (the more favored the group the more negotiable it is). This is why the Ultra Liberal's "we want equality" mantra cannot be taken seriously by any fair minded person.

People spend their lives doing this? Really?
Spartee at November 21, 2009 6:38 AM
I've had people tell me that because of my religion, I'm not really a Christian, but no one's ever disputed my race. I think it's because it's biological fact, not subjective opinion or personal choice. Yet another reason I prefer to think of him as Jesse Jackass.
Patrick at November 21, 2009 7:39 AM
Racism: it's ok if you're black. If a white guy told white voters to stick together, imagine the reaction.
bradley13 at November 21, 2009 8:41 AM
It is time for the Congressional Black Caucus to be tossed into the dust bin of history. The Black Caucus may have served its purpose a long time ago, but these days it only serves to insure we stay divided.
Imagine if a Congressional White Caucus were attempted (which I do not advocate). The MSM would go nuts. But mention the Black Caucus and you do not hear a peep. Why ? The Black Caucus has been around so long it is taken for granted; to most it is another fixture of government, and once in place, never goes away.

The most popular video (by far) that I've ever posted is this one of [black] sportscaster, Stephen A. Smith talking with radio show host, Mark Levin.
I had to introduce comment moderation because about 75% of those who disagreed with what Smith was saying or even that he was saying anything at all not in lockstep with "official" Black American "policy", consistently used a combination of the following:
- Uncle Tom
- Sitting on the stairs with masta'
- House N***er
Checking the YouTube profiles of these commenters revealed the vast majority to be strong pro-Obama supporters (based on the videos they had added as favorites) and most of whom I believe to be Caucasian.
I wonder if middle of the road Democrats realize what kind of allies they have in their ranks?

There's a fine Litmus test to apply, whether the speaker is in Congress or speaking anywhere else about rights. Test them against this:
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
For there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans that think that you have the freedom of speech, that you have rights and the law applies to you only if you agree with them.
Radwaste at November 21, 2009 2:46 PM
Black people should be less racist and just accept that many decent white people are so much more better than them in so many ways.

Not that you could tell this by the linguistic skills...

Oh, come on, you sillies!
Remember, no person of color is capable of being racist, and no woman is capable of being sexist.
(Never mind that these PC platitudes are themselves inherently racist and sexist views, right?)
Jay R at November 21, 2009 4:24 PM
many black people and of ethnic background just want an easy life without working for it. they want special position, special privilege, special rights though they were unworthy of it. that is racism and should not be tolerated.
WLIL at November 22, 2009 3:55 AM
Jesse Jackson is an idiot. He doesn't speak for Black people and I wish he would take himself off his Blackness pedestal.
Oh, I'm a Black American by the way, just in case someone wants to call "me" a racist.

Are the interests of the Black Chamber of Commerce any different than those of the ordinary Chamber of Commerce? Would a white person ever be appointed head of the former?

"many black people and of ethnic background just want an easy life without working for it. they want special position, special privilege, special rights though they were unworthy of it."
Yeah, they were unworthy of it because those are white people's special positions, privileges and rights...how dare those black people and "of ethnic background" brown people want an easy life like us white folks. That's just racist talk.
Can't wait for the Stormfront cross-posting- yaaay white people!!!!
Wilson Reese at November 22, 2009 10:49 AM
That was not racist talk. That was based on what happenned whenever those racist blacks and of ethnic background(eg. asians) were given the upper hand. that was racist reality that had gone unchecked and tolerated for far to long. That was a horrible reality and hopefully is no longer a horrible reality for those whoever that had to deal with all those racist spoilt brats.

You'll have to forgive WLIL, for she is a bear of Very Little Brain.
If it's brown, she hates it.
Very illogical.

"many black people and of ethnic background just want an easy life without working for it. they want special position, special privilege, special rights though they were unworthy of it."
Actually that is true. But it is equally true of about any group of humans you care to assemble.
Humans like leisure and status above their fellows. But they prefer not to work hard for either, if possible.
Spartee at November 22, 2009 6:35 PM
Slighly off subject but I just noticed something that bothers me about the way Obama speaks
Everything he says is a statement.
If you were to write out what he says on paper.
Following the rules of grammar.
You would discover that each and every sentence he speaks is its own paragraph.
Has any one else noticed this?
And does anyone else find it annyoing?
As do I.
lujlp at November 22, 2009 7:26 PM
brian, i just hate all rude nasty brown people. that is all. nothing illogical about that and nothing wrong about that. how do you like it if you are on the receiving end from nasty browm people? I am sure you don't like it. you share similarity with so many abusive brown people who always tried to abuse my brain and my self esteem. i don't alowed that. My brain is my brain. that is none of your business and it is not for you to abuse (yet again).
Saprtee, you know that is not true. Most people work hard for a living, given a n opportunity. If those indecent people tried to prevent us from doing our job properly, then we have to defend ourselves.
WLIL at November 22, 2009 11:08 PM
Brian, did i say i hate brown? I never said i hate brown. I just meant i hated those brown racist spoilt brats(who obviously got very little brain like you did) who got an easy life because of their colour and religion.

Actually people do call congressmen race traitors all the time. It's just the proper type of race traitor (to you) so you don't notice. All it takes is a small amount of calculation to see that much resistance and hatred toward Obama is race hatred. What's that, you say? Such calculation is suspect, that perhaps there is another motive aside from racism that motivates the block of archconservative gerrymandering christianist lunkheads like Joe Wilson and his dozens of nutty brethren and sistren? That there is no relationship between evolution-hating, gay-baiting, mush-mouthed peckerwoodism and the recent and ongoing bigotry of their respective backwater shithole districts?
Well, I suppose I could take that point, except that you yourself engage in the same transparent calculation. Over and over again. Counterfactual, uphill reasoning, soggy with the essence of logical fallacy, distilling reverse racism from the remarks of a few folks.
Like this? "...who expects less from black people simply because they're black..."--except he didn't say that, or anything like that. He said other stuff, which you mogrified into that.
So far it's possible to be elected or read if you are a bigot and your message is bigotry, but those who succeed are generally a bit cleverer; only problem is that cleverness loses them support from folks who like their bigotry straight up. Good luck with the calculation, but I'd suggest a ghost-logicator.

Oh, please. I find it thrilling that we have a black president, in such a short time after vile stuff like black/white drinking fountains and Jim Crow laws. What I don't like is his policy - and I'm also underfond of people who decide to hate somebody whether or not they know the slightest thing about the person, or what they stand for, because the mob decided to make that person the kickball. That's bigotry.
FYI, I didn't vote for Obama and I didn't vote for McCain, either.
I think socialist policy is irrational and I don't like racism or victimism, whether it comes from blacks, whites or others.
I'm actually a little hard to pigeonhole, as a pro-choice, anti-Iraq-war, gay-rights- and evolution-defending atheist who believes pot should be legal and prostitution should, too, and who actually does something to try to help (mostly brown and black) "at-risk" kids do something with their lives...but hey, because I think Jesse Jackson is racist and acting mainly in the interest of Jesse Jackson, I have to be the first post-Jewish girl in the KKK.
Go ahead, keep believing that. I'm not a Republican, and can't get behind a party that panders to the religious conservatives like the Republicans do, but I have to say, the Republicans have never attacked my site like the "progressives" have.
Amy Alkon at November 23, 2009 6:26 AM
Let's see, ice9.
You describe yourself as pro-choice, anti-Iraq war, pro-gay rights, pro-evolution & decriminalization, thrilled to have a black president ... and yet you didn't vote for Obama. Have you considered that this explains why progressives are a little skeptical about you better than does a generalized assertion that progressives are meanies?

My goal in life is not to impress a bunch of tiny little thugs who don't know a thing about me but needed a shiny new kickball for this week.
I'm a libertarian and I voted for Bob Barr.
Obama did little in the Senate, and I'm not a fan of various things he's for. I also thought McCain was a terrible candidate, and Palin was a terrible choice of vice president.
And you know, the thing that makes me happiest at this moment is that I don't impress the likes of lockstep thinkers like you.
Amy Alkon at November 23, 2009 2:33 PM
It's not that progessives are meanies. It's that they are stupid, childish, and more often than not certifiably insane.
Other than that, they're swell people who will stick a knife in your back if you ever dare deviate from the party line.
