People Used To Work Their Way Through College
It isn't capitalism that causes crushing student debt:
Nick Sorrentino explains at Against Crony Capitalism:
Huge sums of federal (fiat) money have poured into the system and as such, just like during the housing bubble, have sent prices (tuition) skyward.Somebody is making money off of your indentured servitude.

Read a bio of a not-long-deceased semi-famous person a few months ago. She had worked her way through Harvard as a typist.
Thanks to easy college loan money and the resultant rise in tuition, you couldn't do that today.
Dry up the easy money supply and colleges will adjust their administrative costs in order to lower tuition so they can attract students.
