The chicken did not cross the road by itself. Someone else did that for it.

Speaking of chickens, I read this story in a couple of places. At one point in his presidency, Calvin and Grace Coolidge were being led, in separate parties, through a government-run chicken farm. During the tour, Mrs. Coolidge asked how frequently the rooster mated. Several times a day, she was told. "Tell that to the President," she said.

Somebody did. President Coolidge asked, "Same hen every time?" No, he was told, a different hen every time. "Tell that to Mrs. Coolidge," he said.
